Welcome to our services!

What kind of events are held at Helsinki rauhanyhdistys?

Helsinki Association of Peace holds services at Myrskyläntie 22 on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 6 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. People gather to services to listen to sermons and to sing songs and hymns of Zion. You are warmly welcome to our services!

Helsinki Association of Peace also organises selkoraamattuluokka Bible classes where scriptures are explained in a simple and understandable manner: you should come there if you are still learning the Finnish language! But if you would like to listen to the ordinary services in English you can ask for translation from tulkkaus@helsinginrauhanyhdistys.fi. Interpreters are also available for Swedish, Spanish, French, and Estonian languages.

If you are not able to make your way to the services you can listen to the sermon online in Finnish. However, if you come to rauhanyhdistys you always have the opportunity to discuss the matters of faith.

Services in French, in Spanish and in Russian.

What is the purpose of the services?

According to the Christian Doctrine of the Finnish Evangelical-Lutheran Church, the Bible is the highest authority for Christian faith and life. Conservative Laestadians who gather at rauhanyhdistys belong to the Finnish Evangelical-Lutheran Church and constitute one of its revival movements. Conservative Lestadian teaching of the faith is based on the Bible: even though the world is changing the word of God does not change. That is why the sermons always focus on studying and explaining Bible passages.

The key teaching at services is how Jesus through his innocent life, suffering, death, and resurrection from the dead has reconciled the sins of the people. Neither human life nor the present visible world will last forever but Jesus will once come again in power and glory to judge the living and the dead. Those who have not lived according to God’s will are forced to eternal damnation and separation from God but the righteous will receive eternal life with God. Man cannot become righteous before God by his own works but one is saved through faith alone, by grace alone, for the sake of Christ.

The work of Christ in the world continues as the work of the Holy Spirit in his congregation. Jesus sent his disciples to preach in his name repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations. The core of the gospel is the forgiveness of sins which is declared in the name and blood of Jesus. The Holy Spirit bestows faith on the listener: those who believe this simple sermon receive forgiveness of sins and become children of God. Each child of God is a messenger of Christ and is thus authorised to preach the same gospel to all penitent sinners. Believing people also themselves live from the same gospel.
